In 2013 our new club consisting of only three high school students wanted to spread awareness of Autism throughout our high school. These students went around to classrooms and shared what Autism is, how it affects students and families, and ways to be supportive and accepting.
We then held an Appetizers for Autism event within our school, and any money raised went directly towards local families who needed sensory items within their homes for an Autistic child. |
In the fall of 2014, SIFT made t-shirt scarves with our special education students in the elementary. These were done by cutting t-shirts and stretching them as much as we could, then tying them into being a decorative scarf. We added spirit beads, and sold these during Homecoming week.

2015 was the 1st Annual 5K race the SIFT Club put on for our community. It was called "Time To Do Something About Autism." The race was to support Autism Awareness, and it grew larger than we ever imagined! Proceeds went towards local organizations who directly impact those with Autism.
Later that fall, our students wanted to do a disability awareness painting for the community. Community members came and painted a canvas and personalized it based on the disability that most impacts their life or the lives of loved ones. It was a great success and the students had a great time. |
In 2016 our club hosted their 2nd Annual 5K in April. It was titled: Run For Those Who Can't. The proceeds from the race went towards improving the lives of students within our school district as well as local organizations who directly impact those with disabilities.
For Christmas our club assisted with adopting a few students within our school to enhance their Christmas experience by purchasing them clothing. We also took part in adopting a grandparent through a nursing home program. The students were excited to know that they would be helping others through this holiday season. |
